Commercial Van & Truck Upfitting Serving Ann Arbor, MI

US Workvan builds out commercial vans and work trucks for Ann Arbor businesses, fleets, and institutions from our shop in Lansing, about 60 miles northwest on I-96. We’re not the closest upfitter to Ann Arbor, and we don’t pretend to be. We’re the one Washtenaw County operators drive to when the job is bigger than a local shop can handle—deep product inventory, custom and specialty builds, and standardized fleet runs done to one exact spec. The drive to Lansing pays for itself.

Why Ann Arbor Operators Make the Drive

Plenty of shops can bolt on a shelf. Fewer carry the inventory, the manufacturer relationships, and the installation experience to design a build from scratch, replicate it across twenty vehicles, and stand behind every one. That’s the work worth an hour on I-96. We’re a Certified Adrian Steel Installer and a 2026 Legend Upfit of the Year Finalist with over 35 years of combined experience on the team. For an operator running specialty vehicles or standardizing a fleet, a shop that gets it right the first time beats a closer one that doesn’t.

Specialty & Fleet Builds for Research, Life Sciences & Healthcare

Ann Arbor is unlike any other market we serve. The city runs on research. Michigan Medicine is one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, and around it sits a dense concentration of life sciences, biotech, and R&D organizations. Ann Arbor SPARK has spent years building this ecosystem, spanning everything from automotive R&D labs to life sciences. Those organizations don’t run ordinary service vans. Facilities, lab-support, and specialty vehicles operating out of the Plymouth Road and Domino’s Farms corridor often need custom configurations for sensitive equipment, controlled transport, and complex daily operations.

That’s the non-standard work that justifies a drive to a shop with real product depth. We work directly with facilities managers, fleet administrators, and procurement teams to design builds around the equipment a vehicle actually carries so it’s organized, secured, and built to last. If an off-the-shelf upfit won’t do it, that’s the call worth making.

Fleet Upfitting for University of Michigan & EMU Operations

The University of Michigan is one of the largest employers in the state and runs a substantial fleet across its campus, health system, and research facilities. Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti adds another institutional fleet to the county. What makes these worth the drive is standardization. We design a single upfit configuration and replicate it across an entire fleet, so every vehicle comes out built the same way and every driver knows where everything is from day one. We handle the purchasing and procurement side that institutional work demands, and we build in cargo ramps and safety steps where daily loading and unloading is part of the job.

Upfitting for Ann Arbor’s Trades & Contractors

Washtenaw County keeps a busy trades workforce of electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, pipefitters, and general contractors working residential, commercial, and campus-adjacent jobs from Ann Arbor out to Ypsilanti and Saline. For these crews, the payoff is a vehicle built once that holds up for years. We install van interior storage systems from Adrian Steel, Ranger Design, Sortimo, and Weather Guard. This includes partitions, drawer units, bin organizers, and pipe and PVC storage laid out around how the trade actually works.

For truck operators, we install DECKED bed drawer systems, truck toolboxes and ladder racks from Weather Guard, Buyers Products, and Kargo Master, and BackRack cab protectors, plus truck caps and tonneau covers from LEER, Century, and Extang. Running ladders, conduit, or pipe between job sites? We fit van ladder racks from Kargo Master and Prime Design.

Upfitting for Ann Arbor Businesses & Commercial Fleets

Beyond the university and healthcare sectors, Ann Arbor supports a broad base of professional services firms, technology companies, and distribution operations along the US-23 and I-94 corridors, plus the commercial districts around Briarwood, State Street, and South Industrial. Whether you run a single service van or a growing fleet, we can build a setup that works and scale it as you add vehicles.

Every Kind of Work Vehicle

Ann Arbor’s campuses, hospitals and research facilities rely on service vans, so cargo vans come first. We upfit Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Ram ProMaster vans, along with compact cargo vans for IT, lab, and technical crews. Facilities and contractor fleets also bring us Ford F-Series, Ram 2500 and 3500, and Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, plus box trucks and specialty vehicles that need a custom configuration.

Delivery routes and campus runs mean lots of heavy loading. Ask us about van lift gates or truck lift gates from Tommy Gate. We also build tank racks for HVAC and utility rigs, and outfit service vehicles with van and truck accessories including strobe lights, LED light bars, backup cameras, and power inverters. Ann Arbor is worth the drive for a build done right.

Serving Ann Arbor & Surrounding Communities

We serve contractors, fleet operators, and businesses throughout Ann Arbor and the surrounding Washtenaw County area, including Ypsilanti, Saline, Chelsea, Dexter, Milan, Manchester, Whitmore Lake, and Superior Township. Whether you’re running service vans near Stadium Boulevard, managing a research facilities fleet off Plymouth Road, or operating a trades business out of Ypsilanti or Saline, we can build your vehicles.
